Setting Up Essential Macros In-Game

So - wondering if you can copy and then paste into in-game? Wondered how to quickly set up a skill command? Want to allieviate the chore of typing “Horsey, follow me!” every five minutes? This is a guide to setting up a simple macro. For this example, I’m going to use a Paste macro, but this is essentially the process you go through for ANY sort of macro you want to set up. For a list of .dot commands, look here: A Forum List of Dot Commands

Setting up a Basic Macro

Step 1

First thing’s first - you need to go into your Options tab. This you find on your paperdoll. To open your paperdoll, double click your character or alternatively, press ALT and P together. Then up comes the paperdoll. From your paperdoll you want to go into “Options”.

Step 2

Following this you’ll get a box come up with ten tabs in total, five left and five right. You want the very bottom left tab which has the image of an arrow on it.

Step 3

From here, select “Add”. This will give you a blank slate to work with for your macro.

Step 4

Now to select a key for your macro. As we are using Paste as an example most PCs have CTRL and V as their paste command. For sake of ease it’s usually good to make this your paste command in-game as well, so in the box with “Keystroke” above it, click inside the box and press V.

Step 5

In the row of boxes alongside that, click on the blue diamond beside CTRL. Other options being Shift, or ALT. You can have a combination of these keys as well - so, one could plausibly use CTRL Shift V to paste if they wanted and so on.

Step 6

This is probably the most important aspect of macro setup. As I am using Paste as an example, Paste is what I am selecting from the dropdown menu. To open the dropdown menu you simply click on the empty box beneath “Actions” (can be seen on the previous screenshot). If you wanted to set up a dot command, you would select “Say”, which would open a new box alongside for you to type your dot command into. For example: “Say” and then .skill tailoring. As can be seen there are many other choices - you can ready an emote, or a Copy macro, or a toggle between war and peace stances.

Step 7

And presto, you have a paste macro set up. All you need to do now is press Apply, then Okay. But make certain you press Apply first or you lose your work and have to start over! There will also be a new box underneath your selection which enables you to add more to your macros if desired but I will detail this at a later stage!

And there you have it, a Paste macro ready for whatever use you want it for. As and when I get the chance I will update this page with further information on different options in the dropdown and on more complex macros as well as more common macros, but for now, this is a good start. Enjoy!
