The study of metals within Terra does exist; the world of Terra being rich and diverse in the sorts of metals able to be extracted from the veins of the mountains to be worked with; and some alloys made from Alchemical means also exist.

Natural Metals

Gold

Gold does exist in Terra; however, it is typically not used for the crafting arts except in lining and jewelery due to it’s soft and malleable nature, adding to this it is considered currency and as a result often considered too precious a material to make blades or armor out of that would not even prove functional.

The other advantage to it’s lack of usage in common crafting is to also lessen the amount of counterfeiting that may happen, gold has never been found in Eridan’s mountains and tends to have come from ancient times past or Leanatla as coins.

Gold is quite possibly the heaviest metal.

Quality: Not for Crafting

Naragin

Naragin is known to be a very rare and sought out ingot for it’s unusual dark hue and it’s rarity, but in truth it is considered a ore of ‘poor quality’. Naragin tends to be soft, slightly harder than gold itself but being much less resilient to impact or holding a form like iron or steel would resulting in it proving often unreliable for armors or blades but serving very well for decorative purposes.

It is believed that during the days of Zeal a large portion of the empire used special techniques of refining the Naragin and folding it to make it into a superior metal to use; however, such methods are currently unknown and are lost to much of Terra and Eridan now.

It is unknown if Naragin proves to be a good conduit for electricity, because so few care to even use the rare metal; and even if they did the likelihood of attempting to use it for such is not yet known of happening.

Metal Quality: Bad

Silver

Silver, in Terra it is a commonly sought after ingot for it’s beautiful and sleek appearance, but due to the difficulty of working with this softer and more delicate metal it is often true that smiths will tend to charge a fair bit more than normal to work with it.

Silver is soft, even more slightly so than Naragin; because of this it is rarely used for weapons and armors outside of from masterful smiths who can reinforce nearly any metal into a strong shape, at least compared to it’s normal type. Silver tends to similar to Naragin be fairly heavy but is lighter than steel.

Silver wiring and mesh tend to be unlikely and only done as decor, this is because the melting point for silver is not particularly high and if left near high heat sources or struck by lightning it risk melting or warping easily.

Quality: Bad

Tarnum

Tarnum like silver is often sought after because of it’s sleek and beautiful appearance, however; unlike Silver Tarnum proves to be quite hard and durable and able to hold a fine edge. Tarnum though is lacking in steel’s more desirable properties such as being very durable; which would prevent it from being a common metal for parts. Despite this, Tarnum is reliable for holding a shape when crafted with.

Tarnum unfortunately suffers from bearing the negative association from the recent past of a cult known as Barachians who openly worshipped a demon as their diety would often march in large numbers wearing armor of metal to identify themselves. As of late this negative association has faded a bit, there are still many who recall the Barachians and associate the metal with them. Tarnum is slightly lighter than Steel; but is heavier than silver.

Tarnum also proves to be a very capable conductor of electricity; though it is rare this is experienced in Terra at the time, it proves more readily capable at it than Steel, requiring a very high temperature for it’s melting point even at thinner wires allowing it to function capably as it.

Quality: ?Good?
