Racial Backgrounds

To play a non-human character, you must have experience (XP). XP is gained through roleplaying in game, thus people joining Dark Age II for the first time must play a human. It is, however, possible to apply for a racial character without having the required XP cost. Based on the quality of your application, the cost of a racial class can be reduced. Exceptional applications can have all the XP cost waived while good applications can have the XP cost reduced. The reduction granted is decided upon by a group of staff members.

Human

Lorilee

  • Information Page
  • Cost: 500bp
  • XP Cost: 5xp
  • Skill cap bonus: +5 anatomy, +5 healing, +5 survival, +5 woodworking, +5 achery, -5 parry
  • Special abilities: Treemeld: Using .treemeld the Lorilee is able to quickly hide in the nearest tree. Summon wisp: Using .wisp the Lorilee is able to summon a wisp to his or her side that will heal him or her for a time.

Morverc’h

  • Skill cap bonus: +5 fencing, +10 cartography, +10 fishing
  • Blocks Backgrounds: Very Quick
  • Special abilities: Water affinity: activated by typing .wateraffinity and targeting a body of water, lasts slightly over two minutes and gives fire resistance and an increased bonus to regeneration rates.

Ork

  • Stat Mods: Strength mod +10, Intelligence mod -5
  • Blocks Backgrounds: Attractive, Rich, Martial Art
  • Special abilities: Berserk: activated by typing .berserk, gives 20% bonus to attack rolls and damage bonus for a minute, yet due to fatigue causes -50% attack and damage bonus for the four minutes after.

Therian

  • Stat Mods: Strength +5, Dexterity +5, Intelligence -10
  • Special abilities: Shapeshifting: Therians are able to shift between three forms using .shapeshift (formname) between humanskin, wolfskin, and moonskin.

Noctii

  • Skill cap bonus: +5 survival, +5 commonlore, +5 speciallore, +5 wrestling, +10 stealth, +10 hiding, -20 faith, -30 animal taming, -30 animalhandling

  • Special abilities: Using stored blood from their victims noctii can increase their own power. See information page for details of each one.

Other Backgrounds

Attractive

  • Cost: 50bp
  • The character does well in interactions with other NPCs due to fine speech or appearance resulting in an increased discount from vendors.
  • Blocks: Unattractive

Charismatic

  • Cost: 100bp
  • The character is a born leader, charismatic and strong-willed. He receives bonuses on loyalty checks of followers and gives bonuses to their checks against Fear.
  • Stat Bonus: Grants +10 leadership, and +1 to the amount ofMercinaries/animals that can be lead.

Clumsy

  • Cost: -150bp
  • Application: Gives -5 to the characters dexterity cap (can go below racial minimums).
  • Blocks: Very Quick, Energetic

Common Magic School

  • Cost: 200bp
  • The character starts off belonging to the common magic school. All witchblood (mages), automatically belong to this school. Choice of another magical school is granted with “Extra School”.

Cursed

  • Cost: -150bp
  • The character loses fate points more often than normal daemonstruck. (20% more)
  • Blocks: Destriny

Destiny

  • Cost: 200bp
  • The character does not lose fate points as often as a normal daemonstruck (20% less)
  • Blocks: Cursed

Dual Identity

  • Cost: 200bp
  • XP Cost: 1 XP
  • The character has a secondary identity of appearance that they have worked logn and hard on to the point where they can be mistaken for a different person. The character is allowed to switch between two names via a text command (Used with .switchidentity). This name must be real, it cannot be “a hooded man”. Beware that switching identities in town while not hidden will generate a rumour, “John Smith was seen disguising himself as Bob”.

Dumb

  • Cost: -150bp
  • Gives -5 to the characters intelligence cap (can go below racial minimums).
  • Blocks: Very Smart, Enlightened

Energetic

  • Cost: 150bp
  • Increases the characters stamina regeneration rate.
  • Blocks: Out of Shape

Enlightened

  • Cost: 100bp
  • Increases the characters mana regeneration rate.
  • Blocks: Dumb

Experienced

  • Cost: 300bp
  • The characters starting skills and stats (not caps) get a 1.25 multiplier to their starting value.
  • Blocks: Inexperienced

Explosive

  • Cost: 300bp
  • Increases the characters damage with weapons.

Fast Learner

  • Cost: 700bp
  • The character learns things almost instinctively giving him passive skill gains. (used with .learn (skillname)

Fast Reflexes

  • Cost: 200bp
  • The character has excellent reflexes. He recieves bonuses to dodging or parrying attacks, as well as to any checks made to relexively avoid damage.
  • Skill bonus: +10 dodge, +10 parry.

Fast Healer

  • Cost: 200bp
  • Increases the characters hp regeneration rate. Reduces health damage from bleeding.
  • Blocks: Frail

Frail

  • Cost: -300bp
  • This character is slightly built. His hit point regeneration rate is lowered. Health damage taken from bleeding also increased.
  • Blocks: Fast Healer

Greater Natural Talent

  • Cost: 100bp
  • The character learns a selected skill 50% faster.

Inexperienced

  • Cost: -400bp
  • The chracter’s starting skills and stats (not caps) get a 0.75 multiplier to their starting value.
  • Blocks: Experienced

Large

  • Cost: 150bp
  • The character is unusually large. He receives more hitpoints based on his strength but also a penalty to the Hide and Stealth skills
  • Skill/Stat bonus: Health +10%, Hiding -10, Stealth -10

Lesser Natural Talent

  • Cost: 50bp
  • The character learns a selected skill 25% faster.

Extra Magic School

  • Cost: 400bp
  • The character starts off belonging to one of the non-common magic schools.

Martial Art

  • Cost: 200bp
  • The character begins knowing a martial art style and will be able to learn the advanced forms of martial arts. This style can be used by typing .usestyle <style known>. For more information, see the martial arts guide.

Night Vision

  • Cost: 200bp
  • Allows a character to see in the darkness (command: .nightvision).

Nobleborn

  • Cost: 200bp
  • The character is of noble blood. He or she will recieve a small amount of gold every other day from their family. Being raised in a noble family also offers benefits to their education in leadership and diplomacy.
  • Stat Bonus: Gives +20 diplomacy, +10 leadership, +20 animal handling. -5 hiding, stealth, snooping, stealing, lockpicking, backstab.

Out of Shape

  • Cost: -200bp
  • The character is out of shape. His stamina regeneration rate is lowered and takes an increased loss of stamina from bleeding as a result.
  • Blocks: Energetic

Poor

  • Cost: -50bp
  • The character starts off extremely poor. Decreases the amount of gold given from income tokens.
  • Blocks: Rich

Possession

  • Cost: 50bp
  • The character starts off with a special item (weapon armor item horse scrolls etc). The possession background can also be used to start off with a unique item relevant to your character’s background. Converse with a GM on what this item can be, and if any limitations exist.

Powerful Channeller

  • Cost: 100bp
  • Increases the character’s mana cost for spells, but also their effect.

Resilient

  • Cost: 300bp
  • Increases the characters resistance to physical damage.

Resistant Cold

  • Cost: 50bp
  • Increases the characters resistance to cold.

Resistant Heat

  • Cost: 50bp
  • Increases the characters resistance to heat.

Resistant Poison

  • Cost: 200bp
  • Increases the characters resistance to poison.

Rich

  • Cost: 100bp
  • The character starts off with a large sum of gold. Increases the amount of gold given through income tokens.
  • Blocks: Poor

Skill Focus

  • Cost: 100bp
  • The character gets +5 to a selected skill.

Skilled Medium

  • Cost: 100bp
  • Increases the characters effectiveness with prayers and summoning spells.
  • NOT FULLY IMPLEMENTED

Small

  • Cost: -200bp
  • Application: The character is unusually small. He recieves a small increase in the amount of physical damage taken, but gets a bonus to hide and stealth skills.
  • Skill/Stat Bonus: -10 Health, +10 hiding, +10 Stealth
  • Blocks: Large

Unattractive

  • Cost: -50bp
  • The character has trouble in interactions with NPCs due to speech or appearance deficiencies. Discounts from vendors are harder to get.

Very Quick

  • Cost: 250bp
  • Gives +5 to a character dexterity cap (can go past racial maximums).
  • Blocks: Clumsy

Very Smart

  • Cost: 200bp
  • Gives +5 to a character intelligence cap (can go past racial maximums).
  • Blocks: Dumb

Very Strong

  • Cost: 250bp
  • Gives +5 to a character strength cap (can go past racial maximums).
  • Blocks: Weak

Weak

  • Cost: -200b
  • Gives -5 to a characters strength cap. (Can go below racial minimums).
  • Blocks: Fast Healer, Very Strong

Witchblood

  • Cost: 500bp
  • XP Cost: 4 XP
  • Required for a character to use the magery skill to cast spells.
