Common Issues

Stuck when logging in?

Is your client crashing after you have selected your character? Odds are, you’re in what we call an “item hole”. This happens when you are logging in in an area which is crowded with non-static items, like a heavily-decorated house.

There are two ways to solve this. One is to ask a GM to move you away from that area. This is, by far, the most unpleasant one, since GMs have other business to deal with, and this issue is a rather boring one for GMs to solve.

The other is the following. It’s only hard to grasp at first, but it will make everyone’s gameplay better.

I’m going to assume you’re playing using the client that can be downloaded from DA’s website, client200b.exe.

1 - Download Ya_muU! from this location: http://uo.pspace.at/Ya_muU%21.ZIP

2 - Go to your Ultima Online folder, and rename the default (the one that is installed along with UO) client.exe to something like client.exe.bak, just so that you can keep it there if you need it.

3 - Rename your DA client, client200b.exe, to client.exe

4 - Run the executable (.exe) file inside the compressed folder. If that doesn’t work, extract it, then run.

5 - On the patching program (ya_muU!), make sure the patching method is set to SPM, and that the patcher has found UO installed on your computer. Then, press the Patch! button on the left (the one on the right is for 3D clients I believe).

6 - Now, if you want, you can rename your client back to what it was. I left mine as client.exe, since I don’t need the default one anyway.

7 - When you get stuck, do the following. Start two clients (you’ll be able to do it now, by executing the same client) and log in with one of them. It’ll freeze, right? Great. Now log in with the other one and go all the way.

8 - If you did everything well, you should no longer be stuck!

Wish to keep Journal logs?

If set up, Ultima Online keeps permanent logs of all that appears in your journal. These logs are useful as proof that something did or did not happen, when trying to convince a GM of something, or just to keep records of your game.

You have a “uo.cfg” file in your UO directory. Open it up with any text editor. Don’t forget that no instances of Ultima Online should be under execution when you open this file. Close your UO client.

You need two lines in this file:

SaveJournal=on and JournalSaveFile=journal.txt

And you’re set. The file will be saved in your Ultima Online directory.
