Woodworking is the combination of Bowcrafting and Lumberjacking. It is useful for creating bows, crossbows, ammunition, gathering lumber, and making assorted decorations.
Bows and arrows a large part of Woodcrafting, of which there are several different kinds of bows and ammunition.
Bows are rather simple in their design. Wood and string. Here are the different kinds of bows you can craft:
Short bows are fast, easy to use, do decent damage, and can be used on horseback. They have the shortest range of the bows, however.
Much like the short bow, with the same speed, but causing more damage. It can also be used on horseback, but takes a bit more strength to use.
The long bow has greater range than the short one, with better armor piercing ability. It is a good deal slower, though, and cannot be used while riding a horse.
Same as the long bow, still requiring greater strength to use.
A small, one-handed crossbow. It fires small bolts at a very quick pace. It, however, has a short firing range and doesn’t cause much damage.
Also one-handed, the hand crossbow has greater range and damaging capabilities, but is slower than the repeating crossbow.
A medium sized crossbow, fired with both hands. Slow attack speed and shorter range than the short bow, but it can pierce armor.
Larger and slower than the crossbow, but has slightly better range and a good bit more damaging.
Weighing 600 stone, this is more of a small siege weapon than a hunting weapon, meant to be used stationary. It is extremely slow to fire, but can pierce anything, causing incredible damage. Incredible range too.
Shafts aren’t actually ammunition, but rather one of the things you need to make the ammunition.
Made with shafts and feathers, this is the ammo for all the bow types.
Bolts are used for all the crossbow types, save one.
Small bolts are only used for the repeating crossbow.
Trophies, or mounted heads, are things you can make with Woodworking. Bears, deer, fish, and even trolls can be mounted on your very own wall!
Potted plants are a great way to decorate any living space. To make these, you need to buy bulbs from a farming vendor.
Some of the items in Carpentry, such as bookshelves, require shaped woods to make. Boards and large boards being the most common. Large boards are also used to restore houses manually. Also made here are fishing poles, used with the Fishing skill to gather fish.
When gathering straw from farms, one uses the Woodworking skill to make the loose straw into bundles to use in other crafts. There are several other items to be made as well, like torches and pipes.
Logs, logs, and more logs. You can never have enough when it comes to Woodworking. There are many, many different kinds of wood that can be chopped. What kind you get depends on what region of the world you are in. The best way to find out which logs are where is to ask a fellow Woodworker in game or go explore yourself!
Certain types of bones can also be used to make items in Woodworking and Carpentry. These are found by killing different kinds of very large creatures.
They are listed here:
Materials to make bows are pretty easy to come by, but involve several other skills. All that is required to make the bows is logs and bowstring, requiring Tailoring. Crossbows are a bit more difficult to make. Still requiring logs and bowstring, they also need several parts, like springs and hinges, that can be made with the Tinkering skill.
Arrows and bolts, as stated above, require shafts to craft, which are made from logs. They also require feathers, which can be procured by killing feathered animals and .carving them.
The most important tool for Woodcrafting is the drawknife. It will be needed to make all the bows, crossbows, and ammunition. Other tools you will need: a smoothing plane, a curved chisels (says scorps in the .craftinfo), and an inshave. Start off with simple bows and arrows, gathering logs with a hatchet and thread (made from sheep wool) to make bowstring.
