Weapons Guide

Axes

Pickaxe

A miner’s tool, can function as a slow and clumsy makeshift weapon, though it will not damage much.

Hatchet

A lumberjack’s tool, good at swinging into trees, but only sharp enough to penetrate the leather armors.

War Axe

An almost blunt axe, easy to swing, but its blade will only do a bit more than average damage.

War Pickaxe

A larger, heavier, sharper version of a pickaxe. Crafted for the purpose purely of puncturing platemail armor, it is extremely effective at that. It takes a while to swing but is painful and slow to wear down its point. Has a dismaying (more for the target) tendency to get stuck in the target.

Bearded Axe

A simple, sharp axe. Swung with both hands, almost average speed but its edge has a tendency to wear down.

Double Bearded Axe

An axe with two heads, slower to swing but hurts more than a normal axe, also easier to use since either side can be used in an attack.

Battle Axe

A one head axe built for combat, it is well balanced and cuts quite well. Capable of being used with either one or two hands.

Great Axe

A large axe, swung with both hands. Slow but sharp and heavy, it cuts quite well.

Executioner Axe

A large axe, it’s blade made for chopping heads. Slower than a two-handed axe, but better at hurting people. Due to it’s design, it will wear down quickly; especially against an armored foe.

Large Battle Axe

A huge axe, two headed and entirely made of metal. The heaviest axe around, it’s sheer weight giving it a punch that shatters shields, and cleaves limbs.

Twin Hand Axes

A twin set of hatchets, sharpened up, they are fairly light allowing you to swing at average speed and deal a fair bit of damage all the time.

Bows

Short Bow

A small bow, of good speed and decent range. In the hands of a skilled Archer its arrows hurt quite a bit.

Composite Short Bow

A short bow with a recurve in it, allowing it more pull and thus more damaging arrows with the same speed.

Long Bow

A large bow, slower than a short bow but quite a bit more pull in it, its arrows penetrating any armor. Can also launch arrows farther than a short bow.

Composite Long Bow

A large bow with a recurve in it. A man strong enough to use this bow can launch arrows that will punch through plate and fly quite far.

Clubs

Blackjack

A bunch of metal in a leather sheath. Fast, good at whacking people into submission, but has little practical use in combat.

Club

A stout branch of stick, good for whacking things. Lasts long and stings.

Great Club

A huge branch, swung with both hands. Slow and clumsy but lasts for a very long time and hurts quite a bit due to sheer weight.

Crossbows

Repeating Crossbow

A strange contraption, used with one hand, it launches tiny bolts with a complicated mechanism that allows it to fire quite fast. It does not put much force behind those bolts though and has quite a short range.

Hand Crossbow

A small one-handed, hand loaded crossbow. It launches small bolts, with more force and more range than a repeating crossbow, but is much slower.

Crossbow

A medium sized crossbow, fired with both hands, it is slow to reload, and its bolts do not travel as far as a short bow, but can punch through plate.

Heavy Crossbow

A large crossbow, fired with both hands and requiring a winch mechanism to reload. This bow is very slow, almost launching bolts as far as a short bow, but it can punch through all armor.

Scorpion

A huge monstrosity, a crossbow built almost as a small siege engine. Weighing nearly 600 stones this monster of a weapon is extremely slow to reload, but can fire bolts farther than any anything, and can send a bolt right through a person.

Hammers

Smithy Hammer

A blacksmith’s hammer, not meant for combat, not balanced for it either.

Small War Hammer

A one-handed hammer adapted for war, it is slow but hurts quite a bit and lasts long. Can be paired with another small war hammer, allowing for quicker attacks with the same punch to them.

War Hammer

A large, very tough hammer. Swung with both hands, it is slow to swing, but smashes heads quite well.

Impala Hammer

A cross between a War Pickaxe and War Hammer, this weapon has a huge spike on one end, and a hammer head on the other. It’s design allows it to puncture through plate armor with ease. Very slow to swing but boy does it hurt. Not to mention very durable.

War Sledge

Weighing at twelve stones, all of which is in the head of the hammer. If a solid blow is landed with this weapon, it will often send the opponent into the air, with many internal injuries. However, it is a tiring weapon to use, and requires a great deal of strength and stamina.

Knives and Daggers

Skinning knife

A thin, pointed knife, made for skinning, but can serve as a last resort weapon, though not for long.

Butcher's Knife

A larger, bigger knife, fast, but still not much of a weapon and still breaks easily.

Cleaver

A cleaver, a big knife, medium speed, but not as sharp as a real sword, meant to cut meat, not armor.

Dagger

A dagger, fast to swing, good versus weak animals, but won’t punch through tough hide or armor and will lose its point fast. Can be paired with another dagger, allowing for attacks that’re too quick for anyone to block or dodge all of them.

Khukri

A larger, tougher dagger, curving inwards, with a blade on the inner edge, like a reversed mini scimitar.

Stiletto

A long and extremely sharp dagger, this weapon is fast and vicious until it wears out, and it does so easily.

Maces

Mace

A strong ball of iron on the end of an iron handle. A decent speed, and decent damage, and lasts for a long time. Often adorned with tiny spikes on the head.

Maul

A larger, longer handled mace, hits harder but swings slower, and lasts even longer than a mace. Capable of being used with one or two hands.

Morning Star

A large, spiked mace, quite heavy and slow to swing, but the most destructive of all one-handed weapons.

Bladed Mace

A set of blades arranged in a sphere formation. Slow to swing, but shreds armor and skin quickly. Very hard to make though and its blades break quite easily.

Polearms

Glaive

Basically a sword on a stick, good for poking people. Fastest of the polearms, it is light, has good reach and hurts. A skilled horseman can utilize this weapon while mounted.

Bec De Corbin

A large hammer on a long pole. A very slow weapon to swing, but its hammer head crushes many things and can reach quite far.

Bardiche

An axe head on a long pole, a slow but damaging weapon with good reach. Used with both hands it can do quite a bit of harm.

Halberd

A long pole ending with an axe head on one side, a hammer on the other, and a spike at the tip. Used with both hands it is very damaging and has good reach, though it is slow to swing.

Partisan

A large refined spear pretty much, this weapon has a larger blade and is much slower, but hurts like hell.

Swords (Small)

Kryss

A wavy and short blade, makes this a fast and vicious weapon. More punch than a dagger, but not much more.

Cutlass

A short, mainly pirate’s weapon, light and fast, and a decent edge on it. Can be paired with another cutlass, allowing you to use both at the same time.

Short Sword

A good stabbing weapon, 1 and 1/2 to 2 feet in length, this weapon hurts and can stab quickly. Can be paired with another short sword, allowing you to use both at the same time.

Swords (Medium)

Long sword

A good average weapon, 2 to 2 and 1/2 feet in length, swung with one hand and the standard most weapons are compared against.

Zealan Blade

A sharp, very well balanced and thus fast weapon. Fearsome, though its edge wears down quickly and is quite hard to create and repair.

Thauk Blade

Similar to a scimitar, but with a prong on the back of it, designed to be used while parrying to disarm your opponent.

Pirate Cutlass

A thicker and stronger version of the cutlass, with a stronger bite to it’s edge, and a wider blade.

Broad Sword

A stout, almost blunt sword, slower than a long sword but heavier and more destructive.

Scimitar

A curved sword with a mean outer edge, a bit faster than a broadsword but wears down a bit faster.

Rapier

Used in one hand, with the other hand used to balance oneself. A sharp but frail weapon, which can be used in a leaping motion for good reach.

Sabre

Similar to a Rapier and Longsword, this weapon is of sorts the middle ground. It is light and attacks at an average speed, but its blade is very well sharpened and it hurts quite a bit more than average. Its blades wears down quickly though and it lacks the finesse of a rapier so it may not be used in long-range ‘leap’ attacks. Can be paired with a second sabre, allowing you to use both at once.

Epee Sabre

Possibly the fastest one handed blade, it is able to strike swiftly and surely, often times before the opponent even has time to recover from the first strike.

An enlarged version of a short sword, 2 and 1/2 feet in length to 3, it has a sharp point and an unsharpened, diamond shape. Fast stabbing weapon that hurts and is slow to wear down.

Bastard Sword

A large sword, 2 and 1/2 feet in length to 3, swung with both hands, a slower speed, but a good slashing edge that will penetrate most armors. Designed to be used with either one or two hands.

Flamberge

A huge version of a kryss, swung with both hands and slow, but leaving mean wounds.

Great Sword

A huge sword, 3 feet in length or more. Swung in great circles with almost your whole body. Good for cutting through crowds.

Spears

Pitchfork

A farmer’s pitchfork, clumsy, needing two hands, but can cause wounds and reach people farther than a sword.

Short Spear

A fast, one handed spear, not much punch but a decent weapon. Can be used with one or two hands.

Long Spear

A large spear, reaches quite far, average damage and higher speed. In the hands of a skilled user can win a battle. Has many different designs, all of which can be used with either one or two hands.

Wooden Spear

Similar to the metal long spear, but made of fire-hardened wood.

Stone Spear

Similar to the wooden spear, but has slightly more punch, though it is more britle.

Trident

A below average speed weapon but it hurts a fair bit and has good reach, used in either one or two hands almost like a three-pronged spear.

Pike

A very long, very sharp wooden pole. Used in stabbing move with both hands, it leaves extremely painful stab wounds. It is the bane of horsemen, as a pike planted against the ground can knock even the best horseman from his saddle, if his charge carries him into it.

Staves

Shepherd Crook

A clumsy tool, held in both hands, can serve as a makeshift weapon, but it will not hurt much and is awkward to swing.

Quarterstaff

A stout section of finished wood, held in the middle with both hands, ideally of the user’s height. A good, fast, weapon that stings.

Gnarled Staff

A stout section of unfinished wood, held in the middle with both hands, ideally of the user’s height. Almost identical to a quarterstaff, but a bit less sturdy.

Black Staff

A quarterstaff made with more care and with iron at the ends. Hurts more than a quarterstaff, but is a bit slower due to its increased weight.

Battle Staff

Expanding on the black staff, the battle staff is almost half shod in iron. Hurts about as much as a long sword, and can be a fearsome weapon in the hands of an experienced warrior.

Miscellaneous Weapons

War Fork

A fast, well-made weapon, vicious for its scratching spikes. Hard to damage and hurts. It’s prongs give it a punch that few armors below chainmail can withstand.

Hammer Pick

A mining tool, better balanced than a pickaxe, but requiring two hands to swing, though it hurts more than a pickaxe.

Scythe

Originally a farmer’s tool, it can make a wicked weapon. Slow but with a mean inward cutting edge, the long handle provides good reach. It has little practical use in combat, as it was designed for clearing a field, not heads.

Sickle

A small curved sickle, mainly used for harvesting plants, it makes a decent weapon in a tight spot as well.

Stake

Essentially a sharpened stick, this weapon is at best for those too desperate or too poor for anything else.

Leather Whip

A whip made of leather, this weapon is fast but does not cause much real damage. Its long tail allows you to reach opponents further away than any other melee weapon, short of the pike. Has little practical use in combat.

Chain Whip

Essentially a whip made out of chain links, this weapon requires both hands, one for balance, the other to swing, and used in a style similar to a staff. It is a defensive weapon and can deal a good bit of damage but it does not quite have the reach of a normal whip due to the way it’s used in combat.

Sling

Basically a strip of leather, which when used with a stone bullet, can be used to whip said stone bullets at your enemy at high speeds. A shorter range weapon than most ranged weapons, this weapon does some damage, is fast, and is one of the few weapons that is comfortably used in the left hand, allowing you to leave your right hand open to quickly grab a sword if someone closes, or to not have to drop your sword when someone run aways.

Lance

A huge long wooden or metal pole, this weapon could kill a person in one blow, but luckily it is too heavy and unwiedly to be used on anything but horseback. On horseback though, it can be used as a powerful starting weapon by charging in at the person. Unfortunately due to the sheer force used when this weapon hits, it will break after a few uses.
